This week has been a continuation of my material experiments and research. As well as making great progress with my psychology research, I have found the exact direction to carry out my research - the object relations unit, which is based on a book I read - self and other.
This is because in this unit, I have always been aiming to explore the emotional connection between people and objects. Therefore, I have reviewed a lot of literature and books in order to find an accurate academic term to clearly express the concepts and phenomena that I want to study.
From the very beginning of my research on fetishism, fetish complex (Fetish complex is a psychological phenomenon that usually manifests itself as a strong sexual attraction or arousal towards a particular object or body part.), such and complex with objects and objects. I actually spent quite a bit of time on it. This is because during the first few weeks of the time, I was always overly focused on dealing with my undergraduate applications. This made it impossible to settle down and read at times, but studying psychology is very much something that takes time to sink in. It wasn't until the end of last week that I finally had time to settle down and then read the book.
I finally found the answer I was looking for in the book (self and other), an important concept in psychoanalysis-object relations units, and I have officially decided that I want to research and create a book on object relations units as a concept.
Why is it that after all this research, this week I have finally been able to identify object relations units as the voices in my head?
It's also thanks to all the research I did earlier in the project that wasn't quite in the right direction, because I needed to know what was inaccurate in order to have a clearer idea of what I wanted and what was right.
Because when I researched a lot about complexes in the lead up to the project, I perceived that while they were not the wrong subject, they were not the voice of the one inside me. The complex is a phenomenon that focuses more on attraction and arousal, whereas the object relations unit focuses more on the impact of an individual's relationship with external objects on psychological development. Although both deal with the relationship between individuals and objects, they have different foci and theoretical underpinnings.
After researching the topic of OBJECT RELATIONSHIPS UNITS, I am also thinking at the same time about the way my FINAL SHOOT should be presented. Through this week's research, I feel that if I only use ceramics in my final shoot, it would be too thin and one-dimensional.
Because of the research on object relations units, I am not satisfied with the simple phenomenon of showing an individual's obsession with a certain object in the outcome. I want to study the concept rather than the phenomenon.
Therefore, in my final outcome, I will reduce or eliminate the presence of material pieces. The focus will be on the expression of the individual's auto-eternal state. But I can't decide on the final shoot yet.
However, I have a slight intention to shoot a test shoot in a studio, where the main prop is a very long wig, in which the two character actors (who play the self and the object respectively) are entwined by their hair - hard to separate from each other. But this test may need to be determined in the Easter break as to whether or not it is going to happen.
I plan to still do some material experimentation and conceptual research next week. Although I may not make material pieces my main focus, I still plan to continue with material tests, which I think are very helpful in helping me understand the relationships in concepts more thoroughly, and I am able to make a lot of sense in the process of doing them. So I'm still going to hold the test, and I think some of the pieces can be used as styling props in the final shoot. I think it would be a good idea.
